How long does it take to remove a load-bearing wall?

The structural work, shoring, demolition, and setting the beam and posts, is often completed within one to two days once the engineering and permit are in hand. The finishing, patching the ceiling and floor and painting, takes longer. Heide Contracting sets that expectation up front so a homeowner knows the rhythm of the project.

What is temporary shoring in a wall removal?

Temporary shoring is adjustable posts and beams installed on both sides of a load-bearing wall to carry the weight of the house while the old wall comes out and before the new beam is in place. It keeps the structure supported during the vulnerable transition. Placing it correctly is where experienced contractors prove their value.

Is there an inspection when removing a load-bearing wall?

Yes. Because the work is permitted, a building inspector reviews the beam, posts, and connections before they are covered by drywall, confirming the structure matches the engineered plan. This framing inspection is the record that the opening was done to code. Heide Contracting schedules the inspection as part of the project.
